Anglers are encountering a lively mix of false albacore, bonito, and tautog. Albies have proven tricky to track this week, darting through shallow waters of western Nantucket Sound, north of Martha’s Vineyard, and the sound side of the islands.
Bonito are still plentiful near Woods Hole and off the Vineyard’s north beaches, sometimes mingling with bluefish and the occasional sea bass.
Striped bass action is ramping up, with South Cape surfcasters and Elizabeth Islands boaters landing both smaller and larger fish. Tautog activity has surged, especially around the islands and Woods Hole, with chumming green crab legs proving successful in jumpstarting the bite.
The Cape Cod Canal is buzzing with bonito, bluefish, and big striped bass—early mornings are yielding strong catches as baitfish and squid draw in predators.
