On Sunday, July 20, 2025, the 16th annual Big Nick's Ride for the Fallen brought together hundreds of motorcyclists to honor the memory of Marine Cpl. Nicholas G. Xiarhos and the Cape Cod Fallen 16.
The event commenced at the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office in Bourne, where participants gathered for a solemn opening ceremony at 9 a.m.
By 9:45 a.m., engines roared to life as riders embarked on a 35-mile journey through the picturesque landscapes of Cape Cod.
The route led them along General MacArthur Boulevard, past the serene Cape Cod Canal, and onto the historic Route 6A.
A poignant moment occurred as the procession crossed the US Marine Corporal Nicholas G. Xiarhos Veterans Overpass on Great Western Road, a structure named in honor of the fallen Marine.
The riders then made their way through the grounds of Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School in South Yarmouth, where Xiarhos graduated in 2006.
The journey concluded at the Sea Dog Brew Pub in South Yarmouth, where participants and supporters gathered for a post-ride celebration featuring food and live entertainment.
Throughout the ride, the streets were lined with community members waving American flags and holding signs, demonstrating unwavering support for the riders and the cause they champion.
The event not only honored the memory of Cpl. Xiarhos, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2009, also paid tribute to all 16 of Cape Cod's fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
Organizers expressed deep gratitude to the numerous volunteers, sponsors, and local law enforcement agencies, including the Massachusetts State Police Motor Unit and the Cape Cod Regional Motorcycle Unit, for ensuring the event's success and safety.
As the sun set over Cape Cod, the rumble of motorcycles faded, but the spirit of remembrance and community solidarity remained strong, echoing the event's enduring motto: "Faith, Family, Friends, Flag, Freedom, Forever." |
